I misread the schedule and was late for when I though the movie started. So, I saw another movie playing at Pipers Alley I wanted to see, The Station Agent. It is a really good move and I recommend it. I will have a review later. With my ticket (and unusually long credit card receipt) I was handed more paper than is usually at a movie theater, ok only 2 pieces. One was a flyer advertising what the theater company is doing to commemorate Breast Cancer awareness month. One thing is the theater will donate 25-cents to a foundation for every ticket, as long as you go to enjoytheshow.com and register the ticket. I think this kind of campaign is a little dubious. Why not donate a lump sum. I guess it makes the consumer feel like they are involved, as I was. The other piece of paper was a game piece for a game sponsored by eBay. You search for one of the listed items and then enter your special code. Of course, no purchase is necessary and you can all play at home by visiting http://www.imagineandwin.com/. |W|P|10664485465500225|W|P|Night at the movies|W|P|jacob.tomaw@gmail.com10/17/2003 10:19:00 PM|W|P|Jacob|W|P|Tonight I was on the bus. There was a couple with their son. He was maybe 4 or 5. His father was telling another man that over the last few weeks they had been watching the Cubs on television. The child had learned to cheer "Go Cubs Go!" The father has tried to explain the Cubs are no longer going to be playing, but it is non sequitur for the child. Every morning he wakes up cheering.|W|P|106644718331863305|W|P|The littlest Cub fans just do not understand|W|P|jacob.tomaw@gmail.com10/15/2003 10:49:00 PM|W|P|Jacob|W|P|It is time to concentrate on the real sports. In 1908 Theodore Roosevelt was President. The population of the United States was 88 million; there are 200 million more people now. There were 46 states. Arizona and New Mexico became states the last time the Cubs were in the World Series in 1912, so this could also be the year for Puerto Rico. In 1908 the Federal budget was only $660 million. A lot more has changed since then, but the point is Holy Crap the Cubs beat the Braves!!! We are now going fishing for Marlin. I know that many Cub fans have someone special who they know this would mean a lot to if they were still alive. Grandpa Tomaw is that person for me. The way I best remember him is laying on the floor in his living room watching the Cubs announced by Harry Carey and Steve Stone on WGN Channel 9. I also remember listening to the games on the radio if we were in the car. I do not remember him cheering or talking about the games with his friends, but I know that he was as big of a fan as you could find anywhere. This year is Deward Tomaws year. Update: Just remembered I am an idiot. The Cubs were in the 1906, 1907, 1908, 1910, 1918, 1929, 1932, 1935, 1938, and 1945 World Series. Meaning the Cubs were not in the 1912 Fall Classic and it definitely was not the last time they were there. So maybe Puerto Ricans will remain second class Americans. Sorry. |W|P|106541536568128852|W|P|Apocalypse Now!|W|P|jacob.tomaw@gmail.com10/05/2003 05:06:00 PM|W|P|Jacob|W|P|Hehehe (Via the Corner)|W|P|106539158250601691|W|P|Damn Pot and its side effects!|W|P|jacob.tomaw@gmail.com10/05/2003 04:49:00 PM|W|P|Jacob|W|P|Where do I sign up to be a member?|W|P|106539058130793981|W|P|EU Parliament|W|P|jacob.tomaw@gmail.com10/05/2003 03:29:00 PM|W|P|Jacob|W|P|For the first time this year! The Cubs winning on the road was the first sign. I want the Cubs to win the World Series but watching Sosa hit a walk off home run in game 7 might be the last thing we all see before the score board flashed "All your base are belong to us," and the world around us fades to black.
