I am adding about one part a month (trying to stay around $200/mo). The part for March was the motherboard. The P4G8X Deluxe from ASUS. It is a very nice looking board and has several sweet features. I do not yet have a CPU or memory, but I still wanted to test the board. Every indication is that I could power up the board and I should here a beep code from the system speaker telling me that either the CPU or memory is not installed. Neither happens when I hit the power button. The case powers up for a sec and then shuts off. I have email Tech support at ASUS just now, so I will see what will happen. I know it also sounds like the power supply might be defective, but I do not think so and I am not sure how you would test it. If you have any ideas on my problems shoot me an email.|W|P|91614775|W|P||W|P|jacob.tomaw@gmail.com3/29/2003 11:43:00 AM|W|P|Jacob|W|P|Last night I saw one of the worse movies I have ever seen. Basic is basically crap. John Travolta acted as well as he usually does and Samuel L. Jacksonwas his typical bad ass. Travolta's character, Agent Tom Hardy, could have been much rounder but he did well with the lines he was given. Jackson is typically a scene stealer and directors try to put hem in as much as possible, but he was used rather stingingly as Sgt. Nathan West. The rest of the acting lest much to be desired. The Female lead is Connie Nielsen (Lucilla from Gladiator), Lt. Julia Osborne, and she is horrible! The lines are repetitive and she has this unusual accent which might be how Danes think southerners sound. The Commander of the base where the movie is set is Timothy Daly of NBC Wings fame. He plays the character as well as he could, but like the others the lines were missing. The rest of the cast plays a group of Army Rangers. Taye Diggs and Giovanni Gibisi (Frank Buffay Jr form Friends) are the ones you might know. Giovanni's character is homosexual and apparently to Giovanni, the director, or somebody has a very bazaar thought how homosexuals sound and act after being shot! As for the director John McTiernan diverges from the typical great gratuitous thrillers like Die Hards and Hunt for Red October to make this with horrible camera angles, lighting and blah. The real culprit of this mess is the writer James Vanderbilt. This is only his second writing credit and perhaps it should be the beginning of the end. There is a weak plot and in the end you can explain to yourself how the things happened in the movie, but you have no idea why. This is one of those movies that take a lot of twists and turns. Usually in these movies you are left with one of two feelings. Awe, I see what happened, because most everything is explained in the end. Or you are left with, Wow!, like in the great Fight Club or the Travolta/Jackson Pulp Fiction. you are left with neither of these. What you are left with is a wish for you $9.50 back. I think that the production team may have been aiming for Pulp Fiction in the jungles of Panama, but landed in a quagmire of pitiful twists and lackluster lines.|W|P|91609923|W|P||W|P|jacob.tomaw@gmail.com3/29/2003 11:07:00 AM|W|P|Jacob|W|P|I have moved The Flatiron Life to the main page of Tomaw.com for the whole world to see! I know that many of you have links to the old site. Sorry please update. :-D|W|P|91608504|W|P||W|P|jacob.tomaw@gmail.com3/26/2003 10:10:00 PM|W|P|Jacob|W|P|Today I finished the design for the identify co-maker piece of the application. Tomorrow I will implement it, and develop the test packet. A little discussion was made about when I will be rolling off of this project and out to HQ. It is starting to look like either the week of the 15th will be my last on this one or the first on the next. I requested Good Friday and the Friday before Thunder over Louisville off today, but they are both in the time when I will be rolling between projects so I am not sure how it is going to work out. A little more reading, I am starting to draw together some broader thoughts about Madison, the founder, the Constitution, and me. But I will not share them tonight because it was Law and Order night and I need to get to bed. Ahh L&O it was very good tonight. I mean it is true that it was a lot like about 10 other racial cases they have done before but it was still great!|W|P|91457057|W|P||W|P|jacob.tomaw@gmail.com3/26/2003 09:58:00 PM|W|P|Jacob|W|P|Yesterday after work I shared food and brew with a couple co-workers at Elephant & Castle. Earlier in the day I was not able to finish the design, as I predicted. I made a good amount of progress, but still left a lot to do. I did make it through all of my emails concerning my previous task and was able to integrate any of the changes that I needed to make. I also implemented the change password and logout functionality. I felt like I read though a lot of pages of Madison on the bus. No Time for RRONR. |W|P|91456324|W|P||W|P|jacob.tomaw@gmail.com3/26/2003 09:06:00 PM|W|P|Jacob|W|P|Here is the picture finally! Ok it is not all Dana's fault. I am such a stud! To bad it turns out that the young lady I took out on Valentines Day is not interested in me. What is she thinking? |W|P|91453374|W|P||W|P|jacob.tomaw@gmail.com3/24/2003 10:33:00 PM|W|P|Jacob|W|P|What a Great Day in Chicago The temperature reached the mid 70s! Thankfully I was stuck in my window cube all day were I could be tortured by the view of the great weather. At least I could enjoy it while waiting for the bus. Today was a normal day at work. I jumped through a scheduled hoop today. Code Walk through of the Loan Application I have been developing. There are still some bugs I need to fix and modification I need to integrate. There are several things that I need to get done still, but I am waiting on our BA leader here to finalize text from the client and waiting on the developers in Annapolis to finish implementing the business logic for the application. I am going to begin to test the whole thing, which is will take considerable time. I am going to spread the testing out over several days and begin working on my other tasks. Tomorrow I am going to begin to develop the next piece. This is a few (I am thinking 4) pages for identifying Co-Makers on the loan. My plan is to finish this tomorrow, but if all goes normally I will not finish for several days. :( The Big Boss told me today (after a little nudging) that I will likely be going to FFX to company HQ for 6 months. Then off to Madison Wisconsin for 18 months after that. This is a big 2 year project to implement a tax system for the state. But nothing is ever firm at my company, so I am not making any broad plans. My sister IMed me at work a picture she and I from Valentines Day. I will post it as soon as she sends it to me. (Every one point and laugh at her until she does!) Reading: Pages 1-4 of Robert's Rules of Order Newly Revised (RRONR) Yes I am that kind of nerd. This was just the definition of what an assembly is. The Sacred Fire of Liberty: James Madison & the Founding of the Federal Republic (Madison) Finished Chapters 3 which was the end of Part I Part I was about the formation of Madison's concepts of Liberty and his understanding of the failure of the Articles of Confederation. He has come to the conclusion that the Articles as they stand are inadequate for preserving the Union. And he fears that if the Union fall so too will the great Republican Experiment. In Chapter 4 (111-126 read) the convention has met in NYC to reconcile these problems and attempt to bind up the Union. No one has really resolved to propose a wholly new constitution. As we all know this will eventually happen. So far most of the Virginal Plan (Madison was a Virginian) has been approved. One interesting piece that was not, which the book concentrates on, is an article by Madison that would allow the Federal Government to have a veto power over any legislation passed by the states. As a libertarian today I find this difficult to take from the Father of the Constitution. But his purpose was not to give the Federal government total power. There was much a since that the states were suffering from over-democrazation. The Federal Government was to be a Republic of Republics; this was introduced as a check to wild swings of the people. In the end no veto power was ever adopted, even for limited purposes. Today the courts have the power to ensure that state law does not trounce on the laws of the Union. Day 5 of Operation Iraqi Freedom. May God be with out Soldiers as they fight bravely to free us from the color coded world the terrorist have placed us in. This is the Land of the Free because it is the Home of the Brave.|W|P|91325078|W|P||W|P|jacob.tomaw@gmail.com3/24/2003 08:23:00 PM|W|P|Jacob|W|P|Reading Grade What grade did you begin reading? A few times during the Fox News Channel's continuing coverage of Operation Iraqi Freedom I have seen an add from Target which states, "[Target] is committed to helping each child read by the 3rd Grade" 3rd grade!?! Pizza Hut's Book It! program had me and the rest of Highland Township reading in the 1st! Perhaps what we need is a little friendly com competition for corporate sponsorship of the youngsters reading programs. Or maybe we should being back the Apple IIe. They worked to educate me 20 years ago I am sure they are up to the task now.|W|P|91317941|W|P||W|P|jacob.tomaw@gmail.com3/22/2003 08:20:00 PM|W|P|Jacob|W|P|Welcome to the greatest new blog in the world!
